A three-month delayed recap of our volleyball season. We were undefeated in the regular season and, thus, regular season conference champions! In the conference tournament we lost in the championship match to a team we had beaten earlier in the season. It was a heart-breaker, but I was still very proud of the season we had. Some quick highlights, just so I get them down on e-paper.
- The sweetest player, who was not very talented at all, came up to me after the last match and told me how much this season meant to her and how much fun she had. Then she started crying and, of course, so did I. Then she told me I’d been saying her name wrong all season. Doh!
- Technically I was an assistant coach and while we shared most of the duties equally, the head coach worked at the school so it was easier for him to handle a lot of logistics and a lot of behind-the-scenes stuff. Well, about three weeks before the season was over he got hit in the side of the head during a serving warm up. He was a football player through college and has a long history of concussions. Cue a two-week hiatus where he was banned from doing anything work, volleyball, or really home related. I felt so bad! Some other staff members really helped me out and even traveled to some away games with us. He was able to come back for the semi-final and championship matches.
- I learned what Triller is. And I helped produce one to DJ Khaled’s All I Do is Win.
- It was really the best coaching experience I’ve had so far. I am not sure if I will be able to go back for the 2018 season, in an ideal world I would! But, regardless, I am so happy that I had the opportunity to be a part of this team. We were so FUN!!!
